The funds described below benefit the School of Government, the Institute of Government, and the Master of Public Administration Program. Most of these funds are held and managed by the School of Government Foundation, Inc.

You may designate gifts to more than one fund. All gifts are tax-deductible.

Giving Opportunities

SCHOOL OF GOVERNMENT

Unrestricted expendable and endowment gifts strengthen the School’s operation and programs and provide the flexible funds needed to support new projects and faculty research. The three giving options below all provide general support.

ANNUAL FUND
Your donation to the Annual Fund helps the School maintain its services in teaching, advising, research, and writing and keeps its operations running smoothly. For a list of giving levels and benefits see www.sog.unc.edu/friends.

SCHOOL OF GOVERNMENT FOUNDATION ENDOWMENT
Your gift becomes part of a permanently invested endowment that produces annual income for long-term support of the School's operations and programs. Gifts may also be added to existing endowments including professorships and scholarships. Call 919-966-9780 for details.

MEMORIAL GIFTS
You may make a gift of any amount in honor or memory of a special friend, colleague, or loved one. Memorial gifts support the work of the School of Government throughout North Carolina.

FACULTY, STAFF & STUDENT SUPPORT

JOHN L. SANDERS FACULTY DEVELOPMENT FUND
This endowment honors the outstanding service of former Institute of Government director and professor John Sanders by supporting research, writing, travel, and materials for faculty.

LINDA MCVEY PROFESSIONAL STAFF DEVELOPMENT FUND
Gifts to this special fund support professional development opportunities for the School’s outstanding staff members. The fund honors the 31-year career of Linda McVey, who retired as manager of the Facilities and Instructional Support Division in 2003.

MASTER OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION PROGRAM

Hayman-Howard-Wright MPA Scholarships
Help support students who are returning to the classroom after gaining valuable work experience. This permanent endowment honors faculty members Donald B. Hayman, the late Kenneth Howard, and Deil S. Wright.

MPA General Fund
Gifts to this fund support a broad range of MPA Program activities that enhance student life on campus including seminar speakers, student conferences, field trips and travel, and equipment and software for the computer lab.

RESEARCH, PROGRAMS & CENTERS

NORTH CAROLINA CIVIC EDUCATION CONSORTIUM
Support the NC Civic Education Consortium in its mission to work with schools, governments, and community organizations to prepare North Carolina’s young people to be active, responsible citizens. Visit www.civics.org.

DAVID E. REYNOLDS CIVIC EDUCATION FUND
This endowment honors the late David Reynolds, former executive director of the NC League of Municipalities. Annual income from the fund supports civic education and civic participation projects in North Carolina.

JAMES C. DRENNAN JUDICIAL EDUCATION FUND
Annual income from this endowment supports new programs, special-topic seminars, conference speakers, materials, and other educational resources for North Carolina court officials.

HENRY W. LEWIS LIBRARY ACQUISITIONS FUND
Initiated with a gift from the late Henry Lewis, former Institute of Government director and professor, this endowment provides important annual support for print and electronic acquisitions by the School’s Knapp Library.

CENTER FOR PUBLIC TECHNOLOGY
Your gift will support the Center's important work to improve the understanding and use of information technology in state and local government and to provide professional development opportunities for information technology professionals. Visit www.cpt.unc.edu.

BRICKS & MORTAR

The expanded and renovated Knapp-Sanders Building opened for classes in January 2004, but many items are still needed. Gifts and pledges to any of the capital funds below will help furnish, equip, and landscape the building and will also bring the School a dollar-for-dollar match from an anonymous donor until 2007! A limited number of rooms are still available for naming, and engraved bricks may be purchased for $250. Call 919-966-9780 for more information.

KNAPP-SANDERS CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND
Provides for a variety of priority needs in the Knapp-Sanders Building.

NORTH CAROLINA LOCAL GOVERNMENT WING
Campaign is nearly complete! Join counties and municipalities across the state in naming the largest wing in the building in honor of local government.

MPA PROGRAM RENOVATIONS AND FURNISHINGS
Contribute to ongoing improvements in the Master of Public Administration suite. Room naming opportunities are still available. For information call Jean Coble at 919-962-0426.

GLADYS HALL COATES MEMORIAL COURTYARD
Help construct and landscape a new courtyard garden in memory of Gladys Hall Coates who, with her husband Albert, helped to establish the Institute of Government. For more information about the Garden (pdf).
