Jan Simmons joined the Institute of Government in 1996. Prior to that, she practiced law in Chapel Hill; Princeton, New Jersey; and Atlanta. Simmons' projects include revising the North Carolina Clerk of Superior Court Procedures Manual and the North Carolina Trial Judges’ Bench Book, District Court. She is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association and serves on the board of directors of BarCARES of North Carolina Inc. Simmons earned a BA from the University of Kentucky and a JD, Order of the Coif, from the University of South Carolina.
