Post-Conviction Proceedings

This course for superior court judges will focus on post-conviction proceedings. After this course, judges will be able to effectively rule on issues that arise after conviction in a criminal case. The course is a small-group, skills-based training in which judges will actively participate.

The following topics will be covered:

  • Procedural issues related to motions for appropriate relief
  • Substantive claims such as ineffective assistance of counsel and sentencing errors
  • Post-conviction sex offender registration proceedings
  • Habeas corpus
  • Post-conviction DNA testing

Attendees

Senior resident, resident, special superior court judges, and any emergency judges who regularly deal with Motions for Appropriate Relief and other post-conviction issues
