“We
use the Institute for many reasons. One of the primary
ways we use the Institute is as our county’s primary
staff development resource. Over the twenty-two years
I have been in local government, I have attended many
Institute of Government courses. Most recently, I attended
the County Administration Course. If it were not for
the Institute, probably local government would not be
at the high level it is in North Carolina..”

Town of Edenton employees use the Institute frequently.
The Council holds legal opinions rendered by Institute
Faculty in high esteem. We ask the Institute lots of
purchasing, planning and zoning questions. Our attorney
and our special projects officer consult with the Institute
all of the time. We use the publications for training
for our new planning board members and our historic
preservation board members. The Institute is a huge
asset.”

attended the Institute’s School for Newly Elected
County Commissioners in the late 1960’s. We call
the Institute at least once a week to get some verification
on some item. The Institute is a great resource.”
“The
Institute of Government is like a clerk’s right
hand. When our council or mayor has a question and the
city attorney is not available, I call the Institute.
As a clerk, the Institute also offers the Clerks Certification
Institute, which I took to become a certified municipal
clerk. Fleming Bell, the Institute’s advisor to
the Municipal Clerks Association, is our right hand.”
