Photo“"I have served as county attorney for Cabarrus County for more than sixteen years. Probably the most successful collaboration with the Institute was with former faculty member Jeff Koeze when we, along with our local health director, created the Cabarrus Health Alliance, which has since become the single most successful public health entity in the state."

-Fletcher Hartsell, N.C. State Senator

Photo“"I served as a Superior Court Judge for sixteen years, and prior to being a judge I was a prosecutor. I have had connections with the Institute of Government in two roles, as prosecutor and judge. As a judge, the Institute has been very important to me because they have literally held my hand as I have tried to make my way through capital cases. Capital cases are very stressful because you want to get everything right. I can remember times when I have called Jim Drennan on Saturdays and Sundays, any time of the day or night, and he has literally talked me through an analysis of a decision I am trying to make. I am really grateful for what the Institute has done for me."

-Shirley Fulton, Attorney, Charlotte

Photo"I have twenty-seven years of local government experience beginning my career as a Purchasing Clerk Trainee in a neighboring county. The Institute of Government is very important to me because it helped me to meet the educational requirement to be hired by the City of Concord where I have been since 1987 and to be promoted to my current position of Finance Director in 1992. I have also enjoyed the networking with my peers across the State and have made many good friends while attending courses at the Institute."

-Joyce Allman, Finance Director, City of Concord

Photo"Whether the question involves public records, bidding requirements, open meetings, personnel law, economic development, zoning, taxes or law enforcement, the Institute of Government has a faculty member who is an expert in the field. No other state in the union has a resource comparable to our Institute. The work of the Institute is a major reason we have such good government in North Carolina."

-Mac McCarley, City Attorney, Charlotte

Photo“"The Institute of Government has been indispensable over the years to the judiciary of our state by assisting in planning, arrangements, accommodations, programs, speakers, orientation of new judges, conferences, materials, socials, research, and advise. There is no other organization with the ability to provide all of this help and these services to our judges."

-Robert A. Collier, Jr., Retired Superior Court Judge, Statesville
