This class serves as a basic appraisal course for assessors, emphasizing the theory and techniques of the cost- and sales-comparison approaches to value. Participants will review terminology, basic appraisal and economic principles, general principles of land valuation, the assessment function, and the mass appraisal process. (IAAO is the abbreviation for the International Association of Assessing Officers.)

Meets NC Department of Revenue continuing education requirements for property tax assessors and appraisers

Certification

Property Assessment Valuation, 3rd edition,

An introductory textbook that supports courses 101, 102, 500, 600, and 201. This book provides the best treatment of the basic principles of appraisal and has many examples of single-property appraisal. It also contains substantial chapters on personal property valuation, mapping, and a basic survey of mass appraisal and statistics for mass appraisal.

Cancellation policy

Course participants who cancel their registration on or before March 4, 2012 will receive a full refund. Those who cancel on or before March 12, 2012 will receive a full refund, less a $50 cancellation fee. No refund will be made for cancellations made after March 12, 2012. All cancellations must be submitted in writing, as outlined in the School's cancellation policy.
