LeaderShop for Veteran Elected Officials 2015
HOW TO DISAGREE AND STILL WORK TOGETHER
The LeaderShop is a workshop series offered across the state annually in conjunction with the Essentials of County/Municipal Government program. The 2-hour state mandated ethics training is included as part of the program.
Conflict on a board is inevitable. Many decisions have long term and serious consequences requiring all sides of an issue to be heard. Effective board members know how to encourage difficult conversations, respectfully disagree, and continue working together.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
*Veteran county and municipal local elected officials
*City and county managers
The workshop is 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. with ethics training 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
LeaderShop includes continental breakfast and lunch.
Participants will receive 6 hourse of LELA credit for the workshop. No credit is offered for attending ethics training.
OPTION: ATTENDING ESSENTIALS OF COUNTY GOVERNMENT:
Veteran county elected officials have the option to also attend the second day of Essentials. Attendance gives participants the opportunity to learn about topics benefitting the entire board such as:
- Public school financing-Explore the nuances of county funding and your ability to influence school policy.
- Working together
- Financial management-a top ten primer
- Bottom Line! An interactive county budget simulation.
Participants will receive 18 hours of LELA credits for attending the LeaderShop and the second day of Essentials.
