Knapp Library

The Joseph Palmer Knapp Library houses a large collection of material on state and local government, public administration, and management to support the School's instructional and research programs and the educational mission of the Master of Public Administration program. Reference and research services are available to all residents of North Carolina, and additional assistance is available to state and local government personnel, both elected and appointed.

Description
“Reasoning with Unreasonable Clients” was presented by Wake County Public Defender Bryan Collins at the 2011 Spring Public Defender Attorney and Investigator Conference. This session focuses on ethical considerations in working with difficult clients. Topics include advising a client on whether to accept or reject a plea offer, including how hard a lawyer may push a client to accept the advice; determining whose wishes must be followed when the lawyer and client disagree; communicating with a client's family members within ethical bounds; and deciding whether to file a motion to withdraw.
