Senator Richard Stevens has represented Wake County in the North Carolina General Assembly since 2002. He works as a management consultant providing assistance with strategic planning, business objectives, marketing, and organizational development. From 1984 to 2000, he served as Wake County manager. He has also served as Wake County assistant manager, and has held numerous positions with the City of Durham, including director of finance and assistant city manager. He has chaired the Board of Trustees and the University Endowment Fund at UNC-Chapel Hill and served as president of the NC City and County Management Association. Stevens earned a BA, an MPA, and a JD from UNC-Chapel Hill.
