Short-Term Rental Workshop

How do recent court opinions affect local governments’ authority to regulate short-term rentals (STRs)? What role do STRs play in the affordable housing crisis? Are municipalities required to grandfather existing STRs?  The answer to these questions and more will be explored as we take a close look at the increasingly controversial topic of regulating short-term rentals in North Carolina. This one-day course will explore the laws, trends, and issues surrounding the regulation of short-term rentals and will discuss the nuts and bolts of the occupancy tax process. The course is appropriate for any county or municipal employee (including board members, managers, and zoning and planning officers) who wish to learn more about the regulation and taxation of these properties
