
Emily Williamson Gangi
Emily Williamson Gangi identifies opportunities for faculty and staff to become involved in public policy matters of statewide significance. She also manages projects designed to help public officials in North Carolina navigate critical policy challenges across a wide range of topics, including education, economic development, health, criminal justice, public finance, and the environment. She teaches a service-learning course for undergraduates on state and local governance. Prior to her work at the University, Gangi directed strategic planning for the North Carolina Community College System and spent eight years at Western Piedmont Community College, serving as vice president for student development and executive director of Western Piedmont Foundation. She served on the Hildebran Town Council, Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation Advisory Panel, and the board of directors of Burke Economic Development Council, Blue Ridge Healthcare Foundation, and the Community Foundation of Burke County. Emily received her BA in political science and MPA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she served as student body vice president. Gangi received the UNC Distinguished Young Alumnus Award in 2009 and was named Burke County Woman of the Year in 2008.
