M. Jeanette Pitts joined the School of Government’s Criminal Justice Innovation Lab in August 2022, where she serves as the legal research specialist. Prior to joining the Lab, she worked as an assistant public advocate for the Office of Public Advocacy in Palmer, Alaska, and as an assistant Public defender in Rapid City, South Dakota, where she represented indigent defendants in misdemeanors, abuse and neglect proceedings, and civil commitment hearings. She earned a JD from the University of Michigan and a BA in English from Furman University.
