Civil Commitment Conference

The Civil Commitment Conference provides training for attorneys representing respondents in civil commitment proceedings.  The 2009 conference will focus on the importance of counsel in civil commitment proceedings.  The day will begin with an overview of this challenging practice area, including a legislative update, and practical tips on using the North Carolina Civil Commitment Manual, followed by a discussion of the ethical dilemmas faced by respondents' counsel.   The afternoon will turn to substance abuse and mental health commitments, and end with a practical approach to dealing with experts as witnesses.
