New Parent Defender Training

The New Parent Defender Training is a nuts-and-bolts program on representing respondent parents in abuse, neglect, and dependency proceedings.  The 2009 program included sessions on ethics and the role of counsel; communicating with clients and witnesses; problems with petitions, trying your case; and dispositional advocacy.  This training features workshops in which participants will have an opportunity to practice skills such as interviewing clients and witnesses and preparing for adjudication.  For information about other indigent defense education courses, visit our Indigent Defense Education site.

Attendees

Public defenders and private attorneys who perform a significant amount of appointed work.  This program is geared toward attorneys who have been representing respondent parents for three years or less, or are intereseted in representing respondent parents.

Cancellation
Policy

Course participants who cancel their registration on or before March 02, 2010, will receive a full refund. Those who cancel on or before March 09, 2010, will receive a full refund, less a $25 cancellation fee. No refund will be made for cancellations made after March 09, 2010. All cancellations must be submitted in writing, as outlined in the School's cancellation policy.
