Basic Register of Deeds School

This course covers the basic operations of the office of register of deeds. The class provides instruction on the following topics: organization of the office; deputies and assistants; bonding requirements and liability insurance; recording and indexing real property instruments; recording maps and plats; correcting errors on recorded instruments; canceling deeds of trust; recording Uniform Commercial Code documents; and other miscellaneous duties.

Prerequisites

Attendees who anticipate taking the certification examination should have enough experience in a register of deeds office to have become familiar with its basic operations and terminology, or have the ability to learn unfamiliar material in an accelerated academic setting sufficient to demonstrate understanding on an examination.
