Public Executive Leadership Academy

The Public Executive Leadership Academy provides city and county managers, their assistants, and key department heads the opportunity to learn more about themselves as leaders and to gain skills to lead and manage change in their communities. During this program participants will have the opportunity to explore how to engage citizens and elected leaders. Topics include techniques for resolving conflict, working with the media, building relationships with staff, and working with boards.

APPLICATIONS FOR 2010 WILL BE AVAILABLE IN JANUARY.  DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS WILL BE MAY 1, 2010.

Attendees

  • New and veteran municipal and county managers who want to strengthen their leadership and collaboration skills.
  • Assistant managers and key department heads—our next generation of leaders.

A select group of up to 30 participants are admitted to PELA each year.

Credit

Each hour of participation in PELA counts toward the ICMA Voluntary Credentialing Program and will satisfy the 40 hours of professional development required annually for ICMA credentialed managers. Continuing Education units (CEUs) also are available at an additional cost.

Scholarships

North Carolina City and County Management Association members will receive a $500 tuition discount. A limited number of partial scholarships are available through the NCCCMA by contacting Gwen Harvey, NCCCMA professional development chair, at 919.245.2307 or gharvey@co.orange.nc.us. Scholarships are also available through the Local Government Federal Credit Union.

Participants will pay their own travel expenses.
