What Life is Like in Delinquency Out-of-Home Settings

Central Tour

This one-day course is offered by the North Carolina Judicial College and provides District Court Judges with the opportunity to visit out-of-home settings used in delinquency matters. The course is required for advanced certification in juvenile justice (judges are only required to attend one offering). Due to the nature of the program, each tour date will be limited to five to ten judges.

Visits will include a Youth Development Center, a juvenile detention center, and a non-secure residential program, such as a transitional home. Participants will tour facilities and have the opportunity to speak with staff. More information can be found on the draft agendas. If you would like a more detailed agenda, please reach out to the Program Manager, Karli Wilson, at kwilson@sog.unc.edu.

The application deadline for this course is August 5, 2025. Participants will be notified by August 12, 2025.

The tour will start and end in Chapel Hill, with an estimated total driving time of three hours. Facility locations include Raleigh and Siler City. A debrief session will be held at the School of Government. The longest single drive will be approximately one hour. Transportation will be provided by the School of Government.
