2009 Local Government Legislative Review Webinar Archive Version

General description:  School of Government Faculty Members will review and explain legislation from the 2009 session, focusing on significant new laws affecting local governments and important bills that were introduced but not enacted.  Participants will be able to post questions and access written summaries of the legislation.
Topics will include:
• Ethics training and code requirements *
• Development permit extensions
• Local authority to regulate smoking
• New public meeting notice requirements
• Revaluation rules
• New special assessment authority
• Restrictions on texting while driving
• Local authority to regulate golf carts
• Animal shelter operations
• Annexation (proposals considered but not enacted)
*Please note: this part of the program will explain the requirements under the new statute and will not count toward the training requirement.
