New Juvenile Defender Training

2014 (Date TBD)

This course is an introductory program for attorneys who represent juveniles in delinquency proceedings. Sessions include theories of adolescent brain development; detention advocacy; and search, seizure, and interrogation in schools. In 2012, the program began with a tour of the Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Greensboro and a discussion with kids in detention. The program continued in Chapel Hill with workshops in which participants practiced trial skills, such as preparing and arguing a suppression motion. For information about other indigent defense education courses, visit our Indigent Defense Education site.
