This course is offered through the North Carolina Judicial College. This course is intended for magistrates and district court judges who want to learn more about the physiology of alcohol and drugs, the incidence and investigation of impaired driving, and the law of impaired driving. The first two days of the course are for magistrates and district court judges. The last day relates solely to the work of district court judges and entails a trip to the state's residential substance abuse treatment program for men in Goldsboro.

The application window closed on November 14, 2023. Applicants who have been accepted into the course will have already been notified.

Additional information

Presiding Over DWI Cases: What Magistrates and District Court Judges Need to Know is a qualifying course in the Judicial College's Certification Program for Magistrates.

This program will have 12.25 hours of Magistrate CE credit (including sessions that qualify for the Issuing Search Warrants and Impaired Driving Laws statutory topics), and 16.75 hours of District Court Judge CJE.
