Advanced Fair Labor Standards Act Course

The Advanced Fair Labor Standards Act Course is an intensive, two-day program taking an in-depth look at FLSA issues of particular concern to local government and community college employers. The course will focus on better understanding the exempt duties test and on compensation issues, such as meal, sleep, travel and training time, telecommuting/working from home, pay-docking, the use of interns and volunteers, fluctuating workweek, the 207(k) exemption for law enforcement and firefighters and common issues arising when natural disasters, such as hurricanes or tornadoes, strike.

This class is not an introduction to the FLSA.  You must have taken Introduction to Public Employment Law or Introduction to the FLSA to register.   

This is an online class. It will meet via Zoom on Feb.1, 2023 from 12:00-5:00p.m. and from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Feb. 2, 2023.

Registration Fee: $300

CONTINUING EDUCATION: This course is approved with the North Carolina State Bar for 7 hours of CLE credit. 

Attendance at the Advanced FLSA course should count toward 3 of the 50 points needed for IPMA-HR recertification, 7 of the 60 PDCs needed for SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP recertification, and 7 of the 60 credits needed for PHR or SPHR recertification. Whilethe Advanced FLSA course is not a pre-approved program for IPMA, SHRM or HRCI recertification, we will provide you with a certificate of completion and a syllabus which you can use to apply for your credits from those organizations. The course material is consistent with the continuing education requirements of all three organizations.
