Correctional Facilities Tour—West

  • Chapel Hill, NC

This two-day program is designed to give judges and other court officials a firsthand look at four correctional facilities in western North Carolina. We will visit two prisons: Foothills Correctional Institution for young men and Swannanoa Correctional Institution for women. We will also tour two programs for probationers: the Burke Confinement in Response to Violation (CRV) center for technical violations of probation and the Black Mountain Substance Abuse Treatment Center for Women. Through interactions with staff, inmates, and residents, participants will learn more about each facility and how to craft judgments and orders that accomplish the court’s intentions.
