Juvenile Justice Reinvestment Seminar for Judges

This course will cover the legal requirements of the Juvenile Justice Reinvestment Act, often referred to as “Raise the Age.” Topics will include new requirements for processing offenses alleged to have been committed by juveniles at age 16 and 17 from first encounter with law enforcement through transfer to superior court or juvenile disposition and termination of jurisdiction in district court. The course is primarily intended for judges and will focus on judicial processes that may become more common following implementation, such as transfer hearings and determining conditions for pretrial release following transfer. Information on school-justice partnerships will also be provided. Magistrates who are interested in developing a stronger understanding of the new raise the age framework are invited to attend as well.

CJE and CLE will be offered for this course.
