Knapp Library

The Joseph Palmer Knapp Library houses a large collection of material on state and local government, public administration, and management to support the School's instructional and research programs and the educational mission of the Master of Public Administration program. Reference and research services are available to all residents of North Carolina, and additional assistance is available to state and local government personnel, both elected and appointed.

SECU Foundation invests in Lead for North Carolina

In March 2019, State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) Foundation and the UNC School of Government announced the expansion of Lead for North Carolina, an effort to train and place young graduates in local governments across North Carolina. Made possible by a gift of $500,000 from SECU Foundation, the UNC School of Government will train and place 20 young college graduates in city and county governments in Tier I communities across the state.

These fellows will be matched with participating local governments in April 2019, trained at UNC-Chapel Hill, and then work in jurisdictions across the state in the areas of emergency management, community health, citizen engagement, and business process improvement.

“SECU’s investment in Lead for North Carolina will help attract young people to local government as a career and encourage college graduates to work in their hometowns or in rural communities,” said Mike Smith, dean of the UNC School of Government. “Public officials have told us they need to expand their workforce, and I’m thrilled that SECU has chosen to give back to individual communities in North Carolina by entrusting us with training and placing these fellows.”
