The Winston-Salem Journal reports that seven alumni of the UNC School of the Arts have filed a lawsuit in Forsyth Superior Court alleging that they were victims of sexual abuse perpetrated by faculty members in the 1980s and that school administrators did not intervene after the students reported the abuse. The plaintiffs are asking that the suit proceed as a class-action and say that several hundred former students could join. Keep reading for more news. Passings. There was sad news out of New Hanover, Iredell, and Transylvania counties recently where members of the local sheriff’s offices passed away due to complications from COVID-19. Captain David “Mac” MacAlpine with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office died in mid-September. MacAlpine worked at the office for nearly three decades and was popular with his colleagues. Sergeant Gary Mayhorn had been with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office since 2003 and passed away this week. Sergeant Donald Ramey of the Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office passed away in late September. Ramey was a Marine Corps veteran and had been with the office for four years. Board Meetings.
