10A N.C.A.C. 69 .0202

(a) All client information in DSS agency records is property of the agency;
employees must protect and preserve the information as required by the regulations in Title 10A, Chapter 69
(b) Original records may not be removed by anyone other than authorized agency staff, except by court order; and
(c) Agency may destroy records in accordance with applicable state and federal retention schedules.
Information about records retention schedules is available through the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, Division of Government Records and Digital Services.
