G.S. 8-53.7
Information that a licensed private social worker (1) obtains in the course of providing professional social services and (2) is necessary to providing those services is considered privileged information. The social worker may not be required to disclose privileged information in connection with a legal proceeding unless:
the patient waives the privilege; or
a district or superior court judge orders disclosure (as necessary to the proper administration of justice) and disclosure is not prohibited by other law.
