Knapp Library

The Joseph Palmer Knapp Library houses a large collection of material on state and local government, public administration, and management to support the School's instructional and research programs and the educational mission of the Master of Public Administration program. Reference and research services are available to all residents of North Carolina, and additional assistance is available to state and local government personnel, both elected and appointed.

Description

This session is designed to educate attendees on a variety of the ethical obligations they frequently face in their role as criminal defense attorneys. Using a combination of lecture, real-life anecdotes, and hypotheticals, attendees will learn how to identify and satisfy ethical obligations common to specific parts of criminal defense, including successor representation, juvenile delinquency-to-superior transfers and reverse waivers, and concurrent abuse/neglect/dependency cases. This session will include education on a number of Rules of Professional Conduct, including but not limited to Rule 1.1 Competence, 1.2 Scope of Relationship, 1.4 Communication, 1.6 Confidentiality, and 4.2 Communication with Persons Represented by Counsel.
