The Process of Foreign Direct Investment

Jonathan Morgan is a School of Government faculty member. An article recently published in Area Development provides a practical perspective on how companies make decisions about investing in plants, facilities, operations, and joint ventures in foreign markets.  This insight into the foreign direct investment (FDI) process is useful as the U.S. seeks to jump start economic growth.  The article discusses some of the key factors that drive FDI decisions and offers some advice on how the U.S. can increase its share of FDI. The Obama Administration's SelectUSA initiative is intended to help boost FDI in the U.S. by coordinating federal, state, regional, and local efforts in an intentional way to attract foreign investment.
