Juvenile Law Bulletin #2022/01

Transfer of Juvenile Delinquency Cases to Superior Court

Wednesday, January 5, 2022

North Carolina law allows, and sometime requires, certain juvenile delinquency cases to be transferred to superior court for trial in the criminal system. Whether a juvenile case is subject to transfer and how a case subject to transfer is transferred depends on the age of the juvenile at the time of the offense and the offense that is charged. This bulletin describes the transfer process, from case origination through appeal of a transfer order.
