Judicial College Webinar: Motivating Officers to Apply for the Job

Recruitment and retention of police officers is challenging even for the most well-resourced agencies, leading police departments nationwide to "think outside the box" in their recruitment and retention efforts. This session reports on one such effort, a pilot study conducted by the UNC School of Government in parthernship with police dpartments in the City of Mebane and the Town of Chapel Hill. The project involved recruiting police officers directly on Indeed using different motivational messages. This session will cover the results of that study, the advantages and disadvantages of using Indeed, and the overall recruitment strategies of the Mebane and Chapel Hill Police Departments. UNC-SOG faculty member Jeff Welty will moderate the panel, which includes UNC-SOG faculty member Leisha DeHart-Davis, Mebane PD Chief Mitch McKinney, and Chapel Hill Police Chief Celisa Lehew.

This webinar will be held from 12:30 p.m.-2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 via Zoom.
