Central Registry
DSS is required to submit certain information to DHHS for the central registry of abuse, neglect, and dependency cases. Identifying information is confidential. It may be disclosed when required by law and also as provided in the regulation to:
certain DHHS staff for specific purposes;
researchers approved by DHHS;
a county DSS director if necessary to gather information in the course of an assessment; and
the Chief Medical Examiner's office and law enforcement in the event of a fatality and there is a need to determine A/N/D as a factor in the death (limited information).
If a county DSS receives information from the registry, it may share it with law enforcement or medical staff when needed to assist in the provision of protective services. DSS may share only limited information from the registry.
Responsible Individuals List
DSS is required to submit certain information to DHHS for the Responsible Individuals List. The list is confidential but may be disclosed as otherwise required by law. Information from the list may be used exclusively for the purpose of determining current or prospective employability or fitness to care for or adopt children.
