This session begins with a brief overview of the distinctions between lay and expert witness opinion testimony, before reviewing the procedures and requirements for qualifying expert witnesses. Examples from real cases are discussed to illustrate principles like relevance and reliability in the context of experts, and defenders will hear strategies for tendering and opposing expert witnesses at trial.
