James Huey joined the School of Government as an assistant professor of public law and government in 2026. In this role, Huey primarily focuses on land use law and stormwater management regulations. Before coming to the School, Huey practiced law at a nonprofit in Durham, where he predominantly focused on environmental and land use issues in North Carolina. Additionally, he wrote and published multiple articles on environmental and land use matters before starting his work at the School.
Huey earned a B.S. from the University of South Carolina Honors College in 2019, triple-majoring in Economics, Management, and Supply Chain & Operations. James then graduated from the UNC School of Law in 2023, where he served as a Comments Editor on the North Carolina Law Review and received the Bane Outstanding Writing Award for his graduating class.
