Knapp Library

The Joseph Palmer Knapp Library houses a large collection of material on state and local government, public administration, and management to support the School's instructional and research programs and the educational mission of the Master of Public Administration program. Reference and research services are available to all residents of North Carolina, and additional assistance is available to state and local government personnel, both elected and appointed.

The School of Government serves within a diverse community whose leaders and citizens come from many walks of life and perspectives. Faculty members also come from many different backgrounds. For several of the School's current faculty members, this includes service as officers in the nation's military.

Former Marine and current professor of public law and government Chuck Szypszak puts it this way: "We were honored to have served in the military. Service at the School of Government is a natural sequel. Our military experiences were different but they all gave us the opportunity to learn about leading and enabling others to accomplish a mission. And we saw the importance of being able to depend on each other. We appreciate others who serve, especially in dangerous places, and for their willingness to put themselves at risk in our defense.”

This Veterans Day, we salute the following School of Government faculty and staff who served in the military as well as our current Master of Public Administration students who have served and continue to do so. Thank you for your service.
