Mark Weaver

Mark Weaver joined the School of Government in 2015 as an adjunct faculty member, where he primarily teaches the Public Executive Leadership Academy and the Municipal and County Administration program. Prior to that, he served for over two decades as an adjunct faculty member at the Ohio State University College of Law and at the University of Akron's graduate school.

Weaver is a nationally recognized crisis communications expert. He regularly conducts national TV interviews, and his opinion columns often appear in major publications like the Washington Post, USA Today, and Newsweek. NBC News in Charlotte, North Carolina, called Weaver “one of the nation's foremost experts in crisis communications.”

Weaver brings a broad perspective on government, having served in all three branches (executive, legislative, and judicial) and at every level (local, county, state, and federal). Mark served as spokesman for the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, deputy attorney general of Ohio, as public information director for a large Pennsylvania municipality, and communications director with the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. As an attorney, Weaver regularly advises, defends, and represents state and local government leaders, judges, and other public sector officials. He’s a part-time felony-level prosecutor and served as an appointed magistrate and acting judge.

Weaver earned a B.S. in public administration from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. As an undergraduate, he served a fellowship with the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress in Washington, D.C. and then interned in a Pennsylvania juvenile probation department. He earned a master of public administration and honorary doctor of law from Kutztown University, and a J.D. from the Delaware Law School.  He is admitted to practice in Ohio, Pennsylvania, the District of Columbia, federal courts, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
