Adult Protection Multidisciplinary Team Workshop

This Workshop will bring together diverse stakeholders from around North Carolina to begin the process of forming and developing adult protection multidisciplinary teams (MDTs).

Participants are encouraged to apply in teams and teams will be county-based.  Each MDT may send up to six people from their community to participate in the workshop. The core of each team should include representatives from the office of the clerk of superior court, the county department of social services, the district attorney's office, and law enforcement. Other team members may include guardian ad litem attorneys, public guardians, and representatives from hospitals, adult care homes, housing authorities, financial institutions, long term care ombudsman, faith communities, and mental health agencies.

Participants will:

  • Define the purpose and value of forming an adult protection MDT within their community.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to begin forming or strengthening their community’s MDT specific to adult protection in North Carolina.
  • Draft a Vision Statement that reflects the shared long-term aspirations of the MDT.
  • Draft a Mission Statement that clearly articulates the purpose and approach of the MDT.
  • Draft goals and objectives to focus the work of the MDT to accomplish their vision.
  • Plan the logistical next steps for MDT development, including scheduling, communication protocols, and team roles.
  • Receive templates and other resources for developing an action plan and ongoing support after the workshop to develop the action plan

The workshop will begin at 11:30 am on 9/29/2025 and end at 4:30 on 9/30/2025 in Chapel Hill, NC.
