Introduction to Program Evaluation

This two-day, online workshop is for local governments, providing a broad overview of program evaluation through six key stages and facilitated by the School of Government's Dr. Maureen Berner. It will be held June 11th and 12th, from 9:00am to 1:00pm both days.

Stages Covered:

  • How Evaluation Works for Organizations introduces what program evaluation is, and is not, in concrete terms you can relate to. Is it something you need for your programs?

  • Logic Models will engage you in outlining exactly how the program is supposed to work in theory, and how to see if that matches reality.

  • Process Evaluations will engage you in outlining exactly how the program is supposed to work, in theory, and how to see if that matches reality.

  • Analyzing Long-Term Impact focuses on defining long-term success for your work in measurable terms, and the data needed to get there.

  • Refresh on Analyzing Data reviews basic descriptive data analysis, what statistical tools you can use to go beyond that, and when to call for help!

  • Communicating Results will show you how to translate what was done in any evaluation into a useful product for practitioners, decision-makers and the public.

Throughout the two-day workshop we will refer to your own situation and you will be asked to apply the ideas to the program, policy or process you have, or are in the process of evaluating in your own organization. The goal of the workshop is to let you start with an idea and leave with jump start on your final report.
