The 2014 Appropriations Act included a provision requiring the state Division of Aging to develop a strategic state plan for Alzheimer’s disease. Section 12D.5 of S.L. 2014-100 (S 744) requires the Division’s plan to address at least all of the following: statewide awareness and education, early detection and diagnosis, care coordination, quality of care, health care system capacity, training for health care professionals, access to treatment, home- and community-based services, long-term care, caregiver assistance, research, brain health, data collection, the public safety and safety-related needs of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease, legal protections for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers, and state policies to assist individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and their families.
