Forms of Local Government in North Carolina

The term "form of government" refers to the “legal basis for assigning authority and functions to officials in government and creates [a government's] overall framework.” This new publication is available as both a four-page "Reference Guide" and an excerpted two-page "Quick-Reference Guide." It provides mayors, chairs of county boards of commissioners, and governing board members in North Carolina local government with an overview of their roles and responsibilities under state law as well as practical guidance/implications.
