Benchmarking

The School's major ongoing project in performance measurement continues to be the North Carolina Benchmarking Project, directed by Dale Roenigk. The North Carolina Benchmarking Project was initiated in September 1995, providing a comparative basis for local governments to assess service delivery and costs. It allows municipalities to compare themselves with other participating units and with their own internal operations over time. The benchmarking process includes compiling service and cost information, cleaning the data for accuracy, calculating the selected performance measures, and comparing the results.

Courses

The School offers several courses each year related to program evaluation and performance measurement. Faculty member Maureen Berner may also be available to offer the program evaluation course to a small group upon request.

Surveys

Many cities and counties in North Carolina conduct surveys of their residents to guide their policies and programs. Maureen Berner and John Stephens offer this collection of such surveys.
