Definition

Your client has an entire life outside of the case that you represent her in. Part of her life may include being a party in a past or current proceeding of another type – e.g., juvenile abuse/neglect/dependency, civil commitment, incompetency and guardianship, or a domestic case. As her lawyer in this situation, there are several ethical and professional duties you need to be aware of. There are also strategic reasons that you need to be educated about your client’s other cases. This session explores both your ethical responsibilities and the strategic reasons for you to learn more about your client’s other cases.
