Purchasing Officer Certification

The North Carolina Association of Governmental Purchasing (NCAGP) offers a professional certification known as the Certified Local Government Purchasing Officer (CLGPO) certification. NCAGP members are employees of state or local governments in North Carolina whose duties consist of purchasing materials, supplies, apparatus, equipment, or contractual services.
Certification Submission Process
- Applications are located in Canvas. You will be able to access Canvas once you complete this registation.

Step 1: Complete this free ($0) registration.
This registration is required for Certification and Recertification.
Important: Completing the $0 registration does not submit your certification application. Registration gives you acccess to the Canvas site where you will submit your application packet.
Step 2: Access the Canvas submission site.
After you complete the registration, you will receive a confirmation email with instructions for accessing the Canvas application submission site.
The Canvas site contains Certification and Recertification applications along with submission and preparation requirements for your application packet.
The 2026 submission window in Canvas is October 1 – November 1.
Step 3: Prepare your packet.
- Your application packet must be combined into one (1) PDF.
- Packet file name should be LastName_FirstName_Application Type.pdf. Example: Smith_John_Certification.pdf OR Smith_John_Recertification.pdf.
- The Canvas system accepts only one PDF upload. Once your application packet has been submitted, you will not be able to upload a revised or additional file.
- Carefully review your packet and make sure it includes your complete application and all required supporting documents.
Step 4: Upload your completed application packet
Follow the instructions on Canvas for the type of application you are submitting.
Once you submit, you will see a confirmation pop up.

Notifications
Application Status: The CLGPO Committee will begin notifying applicants about their application status in mid to late January.
Certification Exam: Information will be communicated through Canvas notification emails regarding review sessions and exam dates. The review session is typically held on the second Wednesday in February and the exam is the last Wednesday in February.
Canvas Access Instructions: You will recieve an automated email with this same information, but click HERE to access instructions on accessing Canvas once you complete this registration.
