Budgeting in Local GovernmentThis course introduces the policies, procedures, and techniques used in local government to produce an annual operating budget and a capital improvement program, as well as how strategic planning improves the budgeting process.Every Fall
Municipal and County AdministrationThis course is designed for city and county managers, department heads, and other city or county officials whose responsibilities require an understanding of functions beyond individual areas of specialization. It will also review how numerous departments and activities within the local government contribute to the achievement of the local government’s mission.Every Fall – Spring (seven four-day sessions)
Public Executive Leadership AcademyThe Public Executive Leadership Academy provides city and county managers, their assistants, and key department heads the opportunity to learn more about themselves as leaders and to gain skills to lead and manage change in their communities.Every Summer
Essentials of Municipal GovernmentAfter the November elections, the School of Government and the North Carolina League of Municipalities jointly hold a two-day conference for city government in five locations across the state. This conference includes the Budgetopolis simulation.Every Winter
Essentials of County GovernmentAfter the November elections, the School of Government and the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners jointly hold a two-day orientation to county government in four locations across the state. This conferences includes the Bottom Line! simulation.Every Other Winter
Local Government Federal Credit Union Fellows ProgramThis intensive two-week program is designed to develop leadership skills for local government professionals. Participants graduate from this program with a deeper understanding of their individual leadership strengths, skills for improving their organizations, and a renewed passion for public service.Every Summer, Fall, and Winter (three cohorts per year)
